Mercedes G- Wagon - The "REAL" Off-Roader..!!

If ever there was a vehicle from Mercedes-Benz which is known more for it's off road antics rather than the flawless luxury that we expect from the three pointed star, it's the G-wagen. Introduced in 1979, its distinctive design has remained largely unchanged in thirty years and now its outstanding engineering have long since elevated the cross-country vehicle to cult status and made it one of the most coveted vehicles in the automobile market.

At the 1979 market launch, the vehicle came with four engine variants, with outputs ranging from 53 kW/72 hp to 110 kW/150 hp. A station wagon and a panel van, each in a short- and a long-wheelbase version, were the four original body variants available. These were complemented by an open cross-country vehicle with short wheelbase as a fifth body variant.

Through the years, the G-Class has kept abreast of technological progress. It boasts an extremely efficient drive system. Combining permanent all-wheel drive with the electronically controlled 4ETS traction system, ESP?, a "low-range" ratio, plus three driver-selectable differential locks, the G-Class is a match for any off-road challenge, and at the same time affords typical Mercedes-Benz handling safety on the tarmac.

The proven basic technical concept remains unchanged even today. Nevertheless, the engineers have continuously upgraded the engineering and equipment since 1979. Automatic transmission and air conditioning have been available since 1981; since 1990 the G-Class has featured permanent all-wheel drive, differential locks on front and rear axles, and a fully lockable centre differential as standard. And since 2001 the G-Class has additionally offered ESP, 4ETS and Brake Assist, giving it a combination of efficient traction and handling safety systems unparalleled worldwide. A worthy alternative to the defender then? Definitely!

Mercedes Benz Formula Zero Concept for The World of Motor Sport Racing

Out of so many releases by Mercedes Benz, this has been the most unseen model of racing car. This car is named as Formula Zero, thereby featuring a new concept in the world of motor sports racing. Unlike a normal racing car, it is fitted with an elevation so as to provide an extra thrust to the wind consequently making it more difficult for the drivers to maintain the efficiency of the car. Hence, energy efficiency will be the integral part of sports with this Formula zero racing Car. Entire new concept of racing has been evolved, combining the thrill of formula one and the theory of track dynamics.

Luxury racing arrives in the Formula Zero Racer by incorporating the thrill of Formula One, the track dynamics of the bobsled or luge, and the grace and efficiency of yacht racing.

Reminiscent of the Mercedes Benz racing heritage of the 1930’s, the Formula Zero Racer is loaded with technology designed to extract the maximum thrust from the electric hub motors, aero-efficient solar skin and high-tech rigid sail.

Each team is allocated the same amount of stored energy and it is left to the teams and drivers to manage the variables to win the race. The winner is determined by total elapsed time combined with the energy efficiency factor.

Spectators at the Mercedes Benz Formula Zero racing Series are treated to a new dimension of racing as the transparent track is visible from all perspectives - even from below!

120 years of motoring history

Mercedes-Benz's new museum in Stuttgart-Untertuerkheim in Germany contains, in the words of the company, "extraordinary automotive rarities".

Designed by Dutch architect Ben van Berkel the museum, which gently slopes down its seven floors in a curved fashion, is itself a remarkable piece of design and engineering.

Among the cars on display, the world's first motorcar, which was invented by Karl Benz during the 1880s and patented on 29 January 1886, hence its name 'Patent Motor Carriage'.

Together, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz founded Daimler-Benz and created the Mercedes marque, which for decades led the way in the world of automotive development.

Every surface was cleaned and every car was polished to ensure opening of the new museum on 20 May.

About 160 vehicles can be seen at the museum's 1,500 exhibits. The new museum replaces one at a car factory in Stuttgart, which attracted up to 500,000 visitors a year.

One of only two eight-cylinder Mercedes 300 SLR Coupes produced. The car was built in 1955 and named after Daimler-Benz's chief engineer R. Uhlenhaut.

This car was gifted to Lady Diana in 1991, but the museum says it was later returned after criticism about her owning a German car.

The sleek lines of these 1930s land speed record cars hint at the shapes of modern windtunnel-formed Mercedes models.
